Uqbar analyzes video and audio to estimate behavioral tension signals (blinking, facial movement, voice rhythm and volume, and similar observable patterns). All of this processing happens locally on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device frameworks. Your videos, live camera feed, microphone audio, and analysis results never leave your device.
Uqbar analyzes video of a face to estimate behavioral tension signals. All face data is processed exclusively on your device, using Apple's on-device Vision framework.
What is processed: facial landmark positions (eyes, brows, lips, head pose) and, optionally, an estimate of pulse derived from subtle skin color changes in the video. No biometric identity template is ever created: Uqbar cannot recognize, identify, or authenticate anyone.
How it is used: solely to compute the tension indicators shown to you in the app (blinking, gaze, facial tension, head stability, pulse estimate).
Storage and retention: analysis results and any videos you record are stored only locally on your device, until you delete them in the app. Intermediate face data (landmarks, pixel buffers) is discarded immediately after each analysis.
Sharing: face data is never transmitted off your device. It is not shared with us or with any third party, including any third-party AI service.
Deletion: deleting an analysis (or using "Clear all history") permanently removes it from your device. There is no copy anywhere else.
This section is our public written policy regarding biometric data, provided for transparency under laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI), and similar state statutes.
The optional camera-based pulse estimate could be considered health-related information under laws such as the Washington My Health My Data Act and the Nevada consumer health data law. For clarity: we do not collect, process, share, or sell consumer health data. The pulse estimate is computed on your device, is stored only on your device as part of your analysis history, and is deleted when you delete the record or the app. No consumer health data is ever transmitted to us or to any third party, and we therefore do not and cannot sell it or share it. Analysis history (thumbnails, scores, optional session videos or storyboards you choose to keep) is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. Your credit balance may sync between your own devices through Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage, tied to your Apple Account — this is a number (your remaining credits), handled by Apple under Apple's privacy terms; we cannot access it. Deleting a record in the app, or deleting the app itself, permanently removes your local data. We have no copy — we never had one.
Uqbar requests camera access to record and analyze video, microphone access to analyze voice tone during recordings and live sessions, and lets you pick videos from your library. These permissions are used exclusively for the analysis you explicitly start, and you can revoke them at any time in iOS Settings.
Credit packs and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not see or store your payment information. Purchase entitlements are verified on-device through Apple's StoreKit framework.
Uqbar contains no third-party analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking of any kind. We do not use identifiers for advertising, we do not engage in cross-app or cross-site tracking as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, and the app makes no network requests with your content.
If you install Uqbar after seeing an ad, install attribution may be performed by Apple's SKAdNetwork framework. SKAdNetwork is operated by Apple and reports only aggregate, anonymous campaign results to the ad network; it contains no personal data, no device identifier usable by us, and nothing about your activity in the app. We never receive any information about you as an individual.
State privacy laws — including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and similar laws in Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and other states — give residents rights over personal information that businesses collect about them. Uqbar's answer to all of them is simple:
Your analysis data is protected by iOS's application sandbox and your device's encryption. Because Uqbar has no servers and transmits nothing, the most effective security measure is structural: your data cannot be breached, intercepted, or disclosed by us, because it never reaches us.
Uqbar is not directed at children, and our Terms of Use require users to be at least 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (we collect none from anyone). If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, contact [email protected]; note that any data involved exists only on the device in question and can be deleted there.
If you analyze a video of another person, you are responsible for providing any notice and obtaining any consent required by the laws that apply to you — including all-party recording consent laws and biometric privacy laws such as BIPA, which may require written consent. Uqbar processes that material on your device only, and it describes observable behavior — it does not establish truthfulness, intent, or emotional state as fact.
Uqbar works the same way everywhere: on-device, with no data collection. For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions with data protection laws: we are not a controller or processor of your personal data, because we never receive any. Processing performed by the app on your device is under your control. Note that some jurisdictions restrict the use of emotion inference systems in certain contexts (for example, the EU AI Act in workplaces and education); see our Terms of Use.
If we ever change how Uqbar handles data, we will update this page and the app's privacy details on the App Store before the change takes effect. Any future change that would involve collecting personal data would require your explicit consent within the app first.
